If you're a fan of the classic peanut butter-banana-chocolate combo, then you'll love this healthy take on it's smoothie sibling. Zuzu Cheddars' velvety shake has a wonderfully rich, thick body from adding coconut yogurt and SunButter, and a pleasant sweetness from the banana and almond milk. The best part is, this is a guilt-free snack, because you'll get a generous amount of fiber from the Salba (we recommend using an equal amount of chia seeds if you can't find it). This takes no time to whip up, so it's a great way to start or finish your day.
Velvety blend of banana and chocolate spiked with high protein - dairy free, vegan!

Gorda Chubinator says: I'm pretty disappointed with this recipe being chosen as the winner. I tried it and it's good, but basically it's just a smoothie with a bunch of ingredients that nobody has available in their pantries. I also don't see how it relates to the special "twist" in the contest guidelines about being especially appealing for fathers. My dad would never go for a health-smoothie in the middle of the night! How was this recipe especially appropriate for Father's Day? Oh well, no hard feelings... enjoy your Whole Foods shopping spree! (I guess I'm just jealous... I'm gonna go have some pumpkin brownies and call it a night...)

about 1 year ago Reply to this »RussianChef says: Salba, by the way, is a high-protein, highly nutritious grain from South America that is used, finely ground, in a number of recipes, from baked goods to other things. You could probably substitute chia seeds or even a little flax meal if you didn't have Salba. But Salba has so much fiber, antioxidants, Omegas, etc. that you should try it! about 1 year ago Reply to this »RussianChef says: You could replace sunbutter with peanutbutter (or any nutbutter). You could also replace almond milk with soymilk, rice milk, regular milk. The flavor will change slightly but the texture and overall character should remain the same.

It is a gluten-free super grain with lots of fiber, calcium, protein, iron, and other important stuff in it. You can use it pretty much like flaxmeal to boost nutrition in your food with just a small amount. Enjoy it!
